April 명동 Accessories Haul

명동 (MyungDong, subway stn. blue line #4) is my favorite place to shop! It has everything you could want in one area — Korean street stores and brand names, cosmetic stores, boutiques, sports brands, major American brand names, street foods and restaurants — you name it!

From March-April, I bought a few basic T-shirts for work from Zara, 4 Etude House lipsticks (planning to review these too), and a variety of things here and there from 명동.

However, included in my April shopping haul, I ended up with more accessories than I expected, and here are my favorite four:

This cap is bad-ass. Hologram effect on brim, logo (front), button (top) and MLB logo (back). When you move around or go under different lighting, the hat’s color and brightness will change!

I was debating between a variety of New Era and Yankees hats — all black, all black with gold embellished logo, or all black with hologram effect — and the hologram was just so unique I had to get it. This cap is so sick!!

Size Chart

When choosing a hat size for yourself, your hat should fit snuggly on your head and not fall off even if you shake it lightly or lower your head. You should be able to fit one finger comfortably between the hat and your head. The brim of the hat should sit just above your eyebrows.

You will see me say this over and over again, but I love unisex or men’s clothing/accessories. What’s even more weird is, I find it even more flattering when a guy truly compliments one of my clothing/accessory item in a way that they would want to wear it for themselves — how cool is it for a girl to wear something that even a guy would want to wear?

I don’t get these kinds of compliments often. Actually, I can count them all on one hand, but a while ago, I wore this watch to class, and at the end of class, one of my male students said to me, “Sharon, I REALLY love your watch — gold and white — really good.”

CL (2ne1)

I’m actually trying to build a hip hop outfit — not 2ne1 style, but true original hip hop (I want to do a post of this eventually, because lots of people don’t know what this actually is!). I didn’t want to get a fully gold watch because that’s just too much for me, so I decided I want something that was gold and white — and found this perfect match!

 

I would totally get the Superman watch, which comes in two sizes for Women and Men (or couple watch), but I can’t find one with a plastic strap. I don’t mind the gold steel strap but sizing is less flexible compared to a plastic strap with holes, and I’m afraid it might not fit T_T

SSFW has sooo many nice bags. I finally settled on this one (also after my ‘go-and-come-back’ shopping tactic the next day) because I’ve been wanting a box-shaped bag (I know, everything I see is something I’ve ‘always been wanting’ T_T but it’s true! That’s also how I always end up spending so much money ㅠ.ㅠ).

 

 

It’s a lot like camera bags for vintage box-shaped cameras.

My bag wouldn’t be able to fit my DSLR though : / (unless I took it apart to carry)

I have been wanting a pair of shoes like these since FOREVER and forever — probably for 3 years — a pair of black, comfy, high ankle, Converse-style (but didn’t have to be) shoes with a twist and edge to it.

However, any out of the ordinary Converse-style shoes (with sequins, extreme shoelaces, or whatever) are usually quite expensive. I could just never find a pair that was nice enough for me to justify the costs — until I saw these (and even then I still had to make myself leave the store and go back another day to buy it to make sure I really wanted it — that’s my shopping tactic now to make sure I don’t buy things I don’t really need or want that much T_T).

 

I was hesitant to buy these shoes at first because I thought the studs were cheaply glued on, but my friend opened up the insides of the shoe and pointed out that they were actually stapled on.

The next time I went to try the shoes on and they are CRAZY comfortable. You don’t even feel like you are wearing shoes!

So all things considered, justified my purchase a lot more! XD

 

The only colors available in store are the All Black and Black & White ones. I would’ve went with the all black silver studs either way.

I only held up the Big Size Stud ones and they are REALLY heavy. I didn’t even try them on and wouldn’t recommend it to girls unless you don’t mind a lot of extra weight on your feet.

The Black & White ones just looked too normal — it looked cheaper and more everyday (although it’s actually more expensive!).

Aland and SSFW are not stores I usually go into myself — I’m not so into the vintage scene. However, I was shopping with a girlfriend that day, and she loooves vintage.

That’s one of the reasons why I like shopping with girlfriends — they always bring me into stores I would normally never step into myself, and even get me to appreciate different styles and items that I may not normally consider for myself! ^^

 

 

PS. I added a product list to my Lookbook: Three makeup look. I had actually meant to do it but forgot T_T What’s the point of seeing a makeup look without at least knowing the products right?

Next time, I’ll take a picture of all the products I used as well.

Lookbook: Three

The past two days I am still going to work in my winter jacket, scarf, and gloves. When is the spring weather coming? I don’t know, but that is how I’m going to justify my last winter look ㅋ

I know this kind of make up is not for everyone, but I wanted to do a really crazy, Japanese dolly eyes with this look, so I flipped through my Japanese “Doll Snaps” book and this is the doll this look was inspired from! I chose green to go with the beige/grey outfit.

What do you guys think? Fun? Too crazy?

I used a total of 3 different false lashes! The two top lashes are the same ones that I am giving away.

Also, I am a bit worried about whether I am doing the Makeup Contest too soon. I realize most of my followers are more Kpop fans than makeup junkies. I will definitely still do the Kpop CD Giveaway, as promised, and I could do a small Skin79 giveaway (a travel size BB cream + face masks + Korean cosmetics samples) once I hit the 100 mark, but I am considering delaying the Makeup Contest because I don’t want to hold it without enough people joining.

Lookbook: Two

I was reading the newest April Issue of Sure (a Korean magazine) and it said that, ironically, for leopard prints, the brighter the color, the more wearable it is. I didn’t realize this, but it’s totally true. I would never wear anything of true leopard fur color unless I want to look like a real leopard!

The bangle and bracelets are actually a bit big for me, so I tend to wear them over long sleeved shirts, especially the bangle since it’s quite heavy and clunky. Also, the skull bracelets are from the Men’s section of H&M, so they are definitely a bit big!

I actually really love shopping for men’s clothing too. If I see anything nice, I will buy it for my younger brother. Sometimes, I even find something for myself!

 


I’m a sucker for sports bags. My favorites are Adidas, Puma, and EXR (Korea based sports brand). I also noticed that Adidas in Korea tends to carry bags I can’t find in other countries, which I tend to like more.

This is actually a laptop bag. It can fit my 13 inch Macbook perfectly. I usually just carry this bag to work ^^

Lookbook: One

I shot my next few looks before making the blog, and up until 2 weeks ago, it was still snowing in Korea! That’s why they are going to be more winter-y feel even though it’s supposed to be spring. And today, I just caught a cold! Darn it! -_-

I was gonna put all the Lookbook posts into one, but since they only allow a new look post every 6 hours, I’ll have to post the rest in another post!


Unfortunately, Lookbook really kills the original quality and colors of the pictures.

 


Bought this bag on the streets of Phuket, Thailand, on a recent trip. They were all labeled “made by Phuket designers” and that caught my eyes because I always love unique items that aren’t mass produced. There was a huge variety of similar bags, all very colorful and fun in all shapes and sizes. I limited myself to buying just one and I couldn’t take my eyes off of the bold blue and yellow! Comes also with a yellow strap.

 

Once, my mom bought me a crystal ribbon pin but I never used it because I don’t like putting pins on my clothes. So instead, she pinned it on my favorite tuque. Since then, I’ve loved putting pins on my tuques!!

When I bought this cardigan about 2 months ago, it was still a ‘rare item’, as in, you didn’t see it all over the street. I had seen it once at a street booth, but it was way overpriced, so I didn’t get it. I found it again in another boutique later on and bought it right away at a more reasonable price and was super happy with my purchase.

However, the last two weekends when I was shopping at Express Bus Terminal (고속 버스터미널) and MyungDong (명동), a cheaper, lower quality of this cardigan was everywhere (the material of mine is thicker and softer)! >.< The funny thing is, when I asked for the price, it was about the same as mine! The lady in the store kept saying to me, "It's a new item. It's really hit and lots of people are buying it." and I wanted to say, "Yes, I know, I bought one myself."

Finally, the deed is done!

After having spent my whole life as a webmaster featuring faces of Kpop artists and never showing anyone my own (and for the longest time, even my own staff!), I must say it is extremely weird to have my own face all over a site. I spent the last year contemplating whether I really wanted to make myself public like this. It really took a lot of courage and while to get used to, but here it finally is!!

I already wrote about three essays on Aheeyah T_T, so I will keep it short here. My plans for this blog and my other accounts/sites are:

  • Sharing my own beauty, fashion, and health tips
  • Product Reviews from high to low end with a large focus on Korean products (ex: Skin79, Etude House, Missha, Innisfree, It’s Skin, Skinfood, Banila co., etc)
  • Cosmetic, clothing, and accessory haul photos, prices, and stores I purchased from
  • Taking pictures of and giving directions to both popular shopping areas and hidden gems in Seoul, South Korea, including less well known or easy to find stores such as: wholesale priced nail art and jewelry making supplies, good piercing/tattoo stores, places to go and avoid for the popular Korean circle/color lenses, etc.
  • Shopping tips specific to Korea: duty free shopping, translating, registering, buying, collecting points on Korean online shopping websites (ex:  Gmarket, Interpark, 11st, etc.)
  • Occasional travel, eating, and accommodation guide and recommendations in South Korea.
  • Youtube tutorials. I put this at the end because I want to focus on my Lookbook and blog first, but mostly because I have yet to play around with my new DSLR camera and find an appropriate video editing program because iSight and iMovie just doesn’t offer the quality that I want.
  • Anything that tickles my fancy, and maybe yours!
