Belated Xmas Haul Youtube Video

I went on a shopping spree for Christmas as a treat for myself, to buy gifts for others, and catch the winter sales. Here’s a video of the clothes, accessories, beauty products, and nail polishes I bought. I also included an Outfit of the Day to model and style what I bought for you guys ^^

I am also doing a mini giveaway of these super cute socks in the video as well. Please check out the video for details.

After a lot of thought on how I was going to 1) take beautiful pictures of all the many items I hauled, including the clothes and 2) how I was going to model all of them without making a big project out of turning it into a Look post instead of a Haul post, I finally decided it would be just much easier to make a haul video. Also, I have had requests from you guys to do haul videos from the comments you gave me in my last giveaway, so it works out nicely.

I found that I enjoyed making the video a lot more than I did shooting looks just because I don’t have to move the furniture around my tiny apartment to make room for a full body shoot and it seems a lot more dynamic and relatable to be talking in a video rather than just have you look at my pictures.

As a result, I decided to move more of what I do on my blog to the form of Youtube videos — hauls, reviews, beauty tips and advice, and of course, makeup tutorials. It doesn’t mean I won’t be updating my blog anymore, but more that the two will complement each other.

What do you guys think?

Here are some photos from my weekend, taken on my new phone. Ipod picture quality totally loses!

My First Street Fashion Experience!

After a few months of winter hibernation, I finally went out to do some shopping in Myungdong, my favorite shopping area in Seoul. As I was walking up a slightly deserted street, I saw this ajusshi (uncle/older man) holding this real big and nice camera looking at me and approaching to talk…

He turned out to be a street fashion photographer!

I wasn’t really that dressed up, since I was prepared for a busy day of heavy shopping, so I was a little surprised. He gave me his business card and asked for permission to take some photos. It was totally awkward for me. I know I take a lot of photos of myself for this blog, but having a stranger with a huge camera take photos of you on his knees and a bunch of different angles on the street and people passing by is… just a little different, you know?

I wanted to bolt and run away as quickly as possible!

He asked me a few questions about myself, where I was from, my everyday style, and to explain what I was wearing that day. I told him my usual style was “편하면서 화려하게” (bright/flashy/dressed up but comfortable). Then he showed me on his iPad the website he was photographing for, where I can find my own photos, and promoted it a little to me.

Here are some of the photos:

White V-neck Tshirt: 7,900 won ($7 USD) online from 11st.co.kr
Teal Graphic Print Cardigan: 30,000~ won ($27) from Express Bus Terminal underground shopping
Polka Dot Denim Shorts: $30~ from Zara (also worn in Nine: Leprechaun Casual)
White Canvas Shoes: $18 from H&M
Silver Shoulder Bag: gift from my mum from Ebase in HongKong (because I love silver/gold bags and shoes!)

To me, white is the absolute summer color. I have like a bajillion variety of white summer T-shirts. With my bleached hair, I actually look better in black, but I hate walking around in the sun in black clothes. I don’t want to be a walking sunlight magnet!

I’ve been wanting a white deep V-neck T-shirt ever since I saw Mary Kate Olsen in this effortless but stunning outfit.

ARGH!! I just always love the Olsen twins’ style and makeup. Well, I loved them since they were babies in Full House!

Close Ups + Accessories

You know how sometimes, you will buy something perfect which you absolutely love, but just never quite find the chance to use it, until one day, it happens to match an outfit perfectly?

Well, that was what happened here…

Rainbow Double Wrap Around Wristlet: 7,9000 won ($7 USD) online from 11st.co.kr
Jamaican Wooden Bead Bracelet: free with above purchase!
Zipper Earrings: 13,000 won ($12) from Hongdae
Teal Circle and Black Mini Star Earring: 1,000 won ($1) from street accessory stores (Ehwa and Myungdong)

The cardigan really matches the description I gave the ajusshi about my style that day “flashy but comfortable”. The bright teal is summery and fun with some colorful comic-like graphic prints.

You can’t see the accessories well in the photos he took, but aren’t the rainbow + white and Jamaican wristlets like an absolutely perfect color match to the white T-shirt and cardigan comic prints?

I wore the earrings to be visible with and match my hair: the long zipper earring where my bangs are long, and the studs where my hair is pinned behind my ears. Unbalanced and mistmatched earrings are an easy way to put a unique twist to your accessorizing.

I didn’t wear the teal zipper because two teal earrings matching the teal cardigan is a bit overkill.

What is your summer must have item? ^^

Joker’s Back + Bleached Hair (Shinee inspired look)

Yes, this is the same Joker design shirt as my Lookbook Five: Joker look (argh, looking back, I kinda miss my old long red hair!! T_T).

I was going to buy the same T-shirt because I cut off the sleeves to my old one, but they weren’t selling the T-shirt version anymore. Instead, they made a sweatshirt version. All the better! I also found out later this shirt is actually a ripe off of a Givency T-shirt design. And the real one retails for like $200, which I can’t afford either way!

Those of you who follow me on Facebook and Twitter have already seen, but yes, I bleached my own hair too!

Please support me by Lookbook hyping, Facebook sharing, Tumblr reblogging and Twitter retweeting this look~! Thank you everyone ^^

I totally love shopping online nowadays. It’s convenient, specific to your search, and free of tired shoulders and back from a day’s of walking around.

Especially within Korea, shipping is super fast. You usually get everything you order within 2-3 days of payment!

I buy most of my stuff from 11st.co.kr because they are a relatively new, less established, and therefore cheaper seller.

In North America, all you get are eBay (which I absolutely hate for its inconvenience) and Amazon. In Korea, there are Interpark, Gmarket, Auction, 11st, and many more. More competition = better service = better shopping experience.

To me, tights are the most comfortable kind of ‘pants’ to wear and so easy to match with anything. The only problem is that while you may have a nice bottom, you might not want your tight booties exposed if your shirt is not long enough to cover your bum.

The solution? Same color and material shorts on top. I recently bought a bunch of tights, shorts, and tights + shorts one piece combination from nolluwa2011 at 11st.co.kr.

I really love everything I bought and wear them all the time, except for one $2.50 pair of black tights that I thought were a steal, but turned out ridiculously short and small! Skip out on the cheap stuff. You get what you pay for : /

Makeup

The kinds of eye makeup that can go with glasses is actually really versatile and doesn’t always have to be natural.

In my Dorky Rocker Chic look, I am wearing heavy metallic gunmetal and black eyeshadow and liner.

Here, I am wearing a less heavy red, orange, and brown shadow combination (all from the NYX 21 rust/copper/bronze 3 shadow palette) and a thin line of brown eyeliner (Urban Decay’s Corrupt) on the top lids with no mascara.

Your glasses eye makeup should vary depending on the color, size, and shape of your glasses, hair, and outfit. Don’t think that just because you are wearing glasses, your makeup needs to be natural — it doesn’t!

Hair

Okay, so I bleached my own hair and it’s a controversial topic. I am planning to write a post on how to bleach your own hair and some of the problems and issues I have as an Asian with blonde hair.

For now, I just want to say two things. One: colored hair is colored hair, whether it’s brown, green, or blonde. I don’t understand why brown hair is acceptable on Asians, while everyone has to make a fuss once an Asian goes a little out-of-the-box with their hair. Brown is not any more ‘natural’ on an Asian as blonde is. And an Asian who dyes their hair blonde is not trying to be ‘white’ anymore than a white person who dyes their hair black is trying to be Asian -_-

Two: everything is still a work in progress. I’m actually planning to go lighter with my hair. And yes, I did already bleach my eyebrows (which I would like to do a review of the eye brow bleach some time), but only once because I just got the product before shooting this. I didn’t want to bleach it any more in one day, so I know my brows are a little darker than they should be!

There are just so many issues with this whole blonde hair on Asians thing that bothers me. I even get strange and dirty looks from older generations of Asian people. Personally, I think it’s just hair and everyone needs to relax, but I’ll refrain from rambling anymore about it!

Left: lighter with more flash; Right: more orange in low light

Depending on the lighting, my hair will be either very yellow-blonde or orangey-yellow. It’s not exactly where I want it yet, but for now, I’m very happy with it ^^

Inspiration

The makeup for this look has two inspiration sources.

One, was a student who came to class one day with dark green hair. She had a really unique, slightly rock/gothic style (just very slightly), which I thought was really admirable because most Korean girl’s style is just very feminine and conservative. But more than her green hair, I loved the way she always did her makeup. It was a very vampire-y dark reddish undereye, and it was absolutely perfect with her green hair and gothic-ish look.

Personally, I think that if you are going to dye your hair a really different color, then your makeup should be just as unique. Leave the natural makeup for the natural hair.

My second inspiration is actually Taemin, the maknae of Shinee. I could never put myself to really ‘liking’ Taemin since he is freakin’ young T_T, but I admire seeing him growing up into a fine, handsome young man XD Blond hair seems to suit him really well, and I always notice the way they do his makeup.

The second inspiration to this overall look is my current, absolute, top-of-the-list, squeal-and-melt-every-time-I-see-him beloved bias, Key from Shinee.

I saw this picture and realized that I could put together a similar look. And, it’s a secret, but you know I will use any chance to fangirl on my blog XD Can I insert too that I saw him perform in person before, and loved him even more after? He looks EXACTLY the same in real life as on screen, if not more beautiful! ARgh!!

Now, please don’t go off the track and think I’m a freaky stalker type fan trying to BE Key. I’m not. I just loved how he looked in this photo and wanted to take a similar photo myself, especially since we have the same hair color now XDD (and NO, I did NOT dye my hair just be BE Key ok -_- I’ve always wanted blonde hair but never had a job that would allow it).

Somehow, one photo just turned into a whole look, because, well, might as well, right? ^^

How is it? Similar look, similar feel? Fangirl mission accomplished? XDD

The Green Parka

There was a time when these green parkas were super popular in Korea. If you walked down the street, there would be at least one girl in one of these long canvas jackets. These are less of a hype now, but you can still see a lot of girls in one.

I never ended up buying one for myself because I don’t like wearing things everyone has, but my mom bought me something similar from her last trip to Hong Kong.

Please be generous with hyping, liking, and retweeting this look~! Thank you ^^

Green Parka: Ebase from HongKong
Checkered Ankle Socks: Myungdong street sock stand, $3 USD
Brown Suede Heels: Shoesone from 11st.co.kr $45 USD

My favorite part to this outfit is actually the socks! I just think it’s fun to have a small splash of color to a neutral earthy colored outfit. The beige pairs really well with the brown suede heels.

I found a really good Korean online shoes seller. They sell all kinds of really fashionable heels, boots, sandals, and even rip-off of designer brands you may not be able to afford at the original price tag.

I know that most of my readers are not in Korea, but if you have friends there, or ever even just travel or do exchange there and are somewhat proficient in Korean or have a helpful friend, then you could consider some online shopping! They usually ship super fast and you get your stuff within 3-4 days of paying for it (though all sellers vary, they tell you the predicted time).

These shoes were very decent for the price and made in China. They had a really strong smell, but I’m sure that will go away with time. They are a little hard to walk in, but just so pretty I’m glad I bought them.

I bought two pairs and will show you the other pair in a future look!

I’m wearing a thin frilly scarf to match the lace rimming the jacket.

Did you notice the puffy sleeves? It’s very princess like. That’s more of my mum’s style than mine. She loves feminine girly princess stuff!

corset back, green parka, canvas jacket

The corset back is my favorite thing about this jacket. I just love anything corset, lingerie, or Victorian!

It reminds me so much of corset back piercings, which I’ve always admired and actually looked into. However, I found out that you cannot keep the back piercings in because you have to sit down or lay down on your back, and the constant pressure cannot allow the wound to heal. So it’s often done for temporary purposes.

Isn’t it soooo pretty though?

I wish I could do a better capture of Gain in this jacket (I couldn’t find the episode on my hard drive T_T), but I loved her jacket and the way she wore it. It’s from We Got Married, episode 51.

What do you guys think of the green parkas? Would you buy one for yourself?

PS. Sorry so long time no see. I’ve been caught up with being a lazy slug in Vancouver — eating, playing Starcraft, and watching Kpop videos everyday T_T

As a result, I’ve officially fallen in love with Infinite My biases are Hoya (just cuz I’m a sucker for the innocent, quiet type and he’s a crazy dancer!) and L (he’s just too good looking T_T), but I generally like all of them =p

How many boybands can I handle!?? ARgh!

Actually, I’ve always known of them because my friend looooves them, but I only became interested after watching them in Weekly Idol. Then my friend recommended me to watch Sesame Player (running away from their managers) and Family Ties(raising puppies). You guys should check those shows out! It’s so much easier to fall in love w/ boybands watching them in their ‘natural environment’ XD

Cozy Indoors + Zombie Blue Matte Polish

Throwing on a simple tee, long scarf, and Dr. Martens to make for cozy and comfortable indoor wear.

Sometimes, there are some looks that don’t turn out to my satisfaction. I wasn’t intending to post this one, but decided to at least put it up on Lookbook because it feels like such a waste otherwise!

Instead, I will share with you the nail polish I am wearing here, which is also one of my favorite go-to polishes. Whenever I’m bored and not sure what color to choose, I usually find myself pulling this one out.

Missha matte blue nail polish, mblo1, lucid polish

no flash

Missha matte blue nail polish, mblo1, lucid polish
with flash

Missha Lucid Nail Polish (mblo1, matte), $2~ USD

This polish reminds me of zombies and… well, death. Doesn’t the blue look like the way a zombie’s finger nails might look like after being buried for a long time?

Okay, maybe not technically.

It’s a very unique, opaque, matte blue. Coverage is very good, one coat being sufficient to finish. Wear is decent, chipping in 2~ days without a top coat (sometimes I’m lazy!).

Once I was editing a student’s script in class, and he pointed out that my nail color was the exact same as the blue pen I was using. It’s true!

Zombies or blue pens, you make your pick! Either way, this is a very unique color for a low price. Plus, I’m a total sucker for matte polishes.

Yesterday was the first day of Chinese New Year. I wish everyone lots of luck and good fortune and hope you collected lots of red pockets! XD

Light Holiday Glam in Checker + Black and Gold

Maybe because I feel like reading classics lately, even my title is overly long and descriptive =p

The title of the first chapter of Oliver Twist is “CHAPTER I Treats of the Place where Oliver Twist was Born, and of the Circumstances attending his Birth.” I just found that real amusing =p

I’m really into collars lately, especially showing under a shirt it can 1) give an extra layer 2) look dressier 3) seems like you put more effort into your outfit.

Shawls are also great winter items. This outfit here is obviously an indoors outfit, but when you are out in the cold and you need more than your winter jacket, a shawl can go over anything for extra warmth (especially in Korea, it’s freaking cold right now!!).

Makeup, Hair, Accessories

This is a GaIn inspired makeup look from this exact photo:

This look was really simple. I just used Urban Decay’s Perversion 24/7 black eyeliner to draw most of the line, and then E.L.F’s angled eyeliner brush to draw a straight and clean edge with NYX’s black eyeshadow.

Using an eyeshadow instead of a liner to draw the end of your liner gives a softer and more foolproof edge.

I am also wearing a half sized false lash on the edge of my eyes to give noticeable lashes that don’t take attention away from the liner.

I really like how this look turned out. Also, I think GaIn’s makeup turned out well because I have a similar eye shape.

I’ve always admired her makeup and would love to do more in the future!

Gain makeup

Eek! It’s a bit messy but some asked to see the back of my hair. It’s a lot shorter than the front.

I did a small cosmetics duty free haul before coming to Vancouver. I’ll share those items with you guys in an upcoming post!

Lookbook: Fourteen: 궁 Princess Hours

A while ago I mentioned that I was rewatching the drama (Princess Hours) and realized I had the wardrobe items to do an inspired look.

Some capture shots from the drama are also provided at the end of the post as a source of inspiration for this look.

Have fun dressing up like your favorite drama~! ^^

Please be generous with hyping, liking, and retweeting this look~! Thank you ^^

Okay, I thought I’d throw in a silly pose in the batch because, well, Yoon EunHye is pretty silly in the drama, and even though she becomes a princess, she doesn’t exactly act like one.

In the drama Princess Hours, Yoon EunHye has a few different styles of outfits. This look is inspired from her slightly 19th century Victorian mixed with modern cute Korean high schooler outfits.

princess hours fashion style

princess hours fashion style

princess hours fashion style

I put together a ribbon and ruffles collar shirt, an oversized cardigan, short mesh skirt, ankle socks, plain heels, and a small straw handbag.

Shirt: mom bought on a China trip (by my request!)
Cardigan: mom bought on a Hong Kong trip
Skirt: Korean street store; $5-10?; Express Bus Terminal
Ankle socks: Korean street stand; $2; Myeongdong
Heels: $15~?; Eehwa Women’s University shopping street
Handmade Straw Handbag: $50, Night Bazaar, ChiangMai, Thailand

I actually really love to wear those ruffle ribbon shirts for work. I prefer them over the usual straight collar formal business type shirts, which I find too boring and stiff.

Instead, I like throwing in a bit of Victorian into my work outfit sometimes. I wore the top of this outfit with a pair of grey skinny pants and grey Dr. Martens to work.

I asked my mom to buy a load of these shirts for me in as many different styles as possible when she last went to China, because they are mighty expensive in Korea, and not widely available.

I literally have like a whole drawer of those ruffle ribbon shirts. Since winter is now here, you may be seeing them in some upcoming looks ^^

Makeup, Hair, Accessories

I wish the camera showed the real colors of the lipstick, because I did the Korean style of gradient lipstick — pigmented inner lips, lighter outer lips.

Apply a nude/natural lipcolor all over your lips, then a more pigmented pink on the most inner parts of your lips. Press your lips together to blend.

Also, if you want to braid your hair and hold it without an elastic, just braid loosely on the top, and tighter at the end. When you’ve braided down all the way to the tips of your hair, hold the end tightly and ‘backcomb‘ the ends with your fingers. Backcomb by pushing upwards to create knots. Then hairspray the tips. Voila!

princess hours fashion style

I super duper love this handmade straw handbag from Thailand. I actually had to go back a 2nd time to buy it because it was so expensive (in terms of Thailand goods), but it was just so vintage and unique, I caved.

Thailand actually has really nice quality handbags for the price. I bought 3 handbags in Chiang Mai and have use all of them in my looks now — blue and yellow leather square bag (Lookbook: One), pink handbag (Lookbook: Six) and this handmade straw handbag.

Inspiration

The key items for this look are really…
1) a ruffle and/or ribbon shirt
2) a cardigan in a fun color or pattern
3) a cute hair accessory or earrings.

It’d be even better if you can throw in…
4) a pair of heels (or flats)
5) a small handbag (she never carries big shoulder bags!)

If the skirt is too girly or dressy for you, you can replace it for a pair of jeans.

She actually does this a lot in the drama, but keep it feminine with a pair of heels or pretty flats.

*phew*! It took forever to get this post up because I spent like… HOURS going through the whole drama and capturing all her outfits. So, I’m sorry to be so slow on updates!

I even captured the outfits not in the same style as this post, as I’d like save them for later to do maybe one or two more Goong inspired outfits XD. Especially if you guys like this one ^^

A lot of that time was also put into rewatching my favorite parts as well, I guess =p

I hope you guys enjoyed this post.

I’ll have to slip in a disclaimer here to say that, by doing an inspired look, I am not saying that I am Yoon EunHye, or trying to be like her. As a fan of the drama, I just had lots of fun dressing up as one of my favorite princesses XD

Winter is here and Christmas is around the corner. What is everyone planning to do for the holidays?

I went on a small shopping haul a few days ago. I’ll share it with you guys in a later post, maybe on Christmas day ^^

Lookbook: Thirteen: Loose Knit + Mesh Skirt

Shopping online used to be about finding items cheaper than in stores. However, that’s not always true anymore in Korea.

Lots of clothing from Korean online stores are actually more expensive than in stores — the models and photography make up for the store rent and salesperson wages you normally think you are saving on when shopping online.

Basically, the better the clothes and models look, the more overpriced it’s going to be. Which is absolutely terrible because the better it looks, the more you’re going to want it.

A while ago, I found an interesting magazine called nnonn in Korea — a collection of outfit photos from Korean online shopping malls. I have the Feb 2011 issue and super loved one of their outfits — loose fit sweater and long mesh skirt (pics at end of post). One look at their prices though, and I knew they were over charging.

In general, I believe there are two kinds of clothing purchases — impulse buy and treasure hunt. Impulse buy, you see something, love it, and buy it. Treasure hunt, you have something in mind and patiently search and wait until you come upon the perfect item and cost.

This outfit is the result of a successful treasure hunt!

Sweater: mom’s closet
Mesh Skirt: 19,000 won/$18 USD, online (seller: moundew80 @ 11st.co.kr; product link)
Silver Flats: $70; Aldo, Vancouver

I packed a full mini suitcase full of clothes from my mom last time I went back to Vancouver, so you will see them popping up from time to time. She buys them all from Hong Kong, so I’m sorry I cannot give more info!

For the skirt, I just wanted anything that was NOT pink, vanilla, white, or black, because that is ALL the colors Korean stores sell! It’s so annoying, but it’s all the safe, neutral, girly, boring colors. I wanted something that was a little different and found this mint colored long mesh skirt.

This skirt is also great with a loose plain white t-shirt tucked in, finished with a long pendant necklace. That’s how I wear it in warmer weathers, without the sweater.

Do you guys remember me mentioning I love gold/silver shoes/bags? The silver flats are one of my go-to work shoes — it goes well with a lot more outfits than you may think!

I know this outfit is so much girly overflow, but sometimes, I like looking girly too XD

Plastic Hair Pin: 10,000~ won ($9 USD)

Plastic accessories are really on the loose nowadays.

I used to buy the cloth material hair clips, but they often fall apart and wear out a lot faster. These plastic ones are bold, fun, durable, and really give off a bit of a ‘lego’ feel, and you know the whole lego thing is becoming quite a common sight as an accessory item in Korea.

Winter is here and so is knitwear. Consider matching it with a mesh fabric skirt for that pretty and girly look.

If it’s just too gag-me-please girly for you, then just go with a pair of skinny pants!

Here’s the price listing for the first picture sweater + skirt outfit and you will see why I did not make a purchase from funfungirl.biz:

Loose fit lemon color waffle knit: 49,800 won ($45 USD)
Inner layer white shirt: 18,000 won ($17)
Puffy purple navy mesh skirt: 64,800 won ($60)

I don’t know about my sweater, but while their skirt was $60, mine was only $18, both bought in Korea, both online stores, totally different price. I really doubt it’s because the quality is much different.

The reason is, funfungirl.biz has pretty models against sweet cutesy background and a good photographer and website. The site I bought from doesn’t even show the face of their models.

So, if you wanna save money, you gotta use your imagination and patience instead of splurging on these pretty websites!

P.S. I’ve been caught up re-watching 궁 (Princess Hours) drama and drooling over Joo JiHoon on the weekends, so haven’t had time to post or shoot until recently T_T

Sorry it’s been quite a while!

Lookbook: Twelve: Dorky Rocker Chic

The glasses and buttoned up collar shirt make gives this a slightly dorky feel. The oversized, untucked shirt over black spandex tights, purple Dr. Martens and big, clunky bangles and heavy makeup give it a more rocker look. Finally, I pulled my hair completely back from my face and up in a bun and overall simple (but bold) pieces to keep it clean, pulled together, and chic.

That’s my take on this outfit!

I always love the dorky + chic looks. What about you guys?

Please be generous with hyping, sharing, and retweeting this look~! Thank you very much ^^

Shirt: My mom’s closet

Tights: Hong Kong shopping mall (some… where…) find with my best friend

Dr. Martens: Hong Kong Mong Kok shoe store street (I jumped on this when I saw it in HK because this one has slight dots all over, which gives it more texture. In Korea, only the all smooth Dr. Martens are available… and honestly I find those kinda ugly)

Bangles: ssfw in Myeongdong, Seoul (A recent buy. argh! I still gotta do that haul post!!)

Glasses: Ray Ban imitation — randomly stole from home when I went back to Vancouver. I ended up loving it so much I bought myself a pair of real Ray Ban prescription. Will show you guys that one day!
I didn’t realize just how many ppl are wearing these nowadays though because now I can’t wear them to class cuz I feel weird having the exact same style glasses as my male students (you don’t see the girls wearing them)!
I love wearing things that boys wear but it’s strange for the teacher to be sporting the same thing as their students? No?

I started off with an orange lipstick (Etude House Miss Tangerine Sweet Shower Lips (#4, miss tangerine tangerine); also in my Lookbook Four: Mini Black Dress post).

After doing my hair and makeup and taking the portrait shots, I took a break and ate lunch before continuing to shoot, and decided to change my lipstick to hot pink. I’m actually more of an eyeshadow than lipstick girl, so with my eyeshadow, I can be really confident and happy with what I do, but I’m never satisfied with my lipstick colors!

The next two colors I took at the very end of the shoot with the hot pink lipstick. I ended up liking the orange better with this look T__T lol

I actually love heavy makeup + glasses looks. It may not seem to work if you just think about it, but I really love it.

The reason I think it works is because of big glasses. You don’t do heavy makeup like this with small, narrow or rectangular glasses — just the big, square, or circle glasses because the big frames and shape put more emphasis and attention on your eyes. If you have small eyes framed by big glasses, it can make your eyes look even smaller. Solve this by elongating and enlarging your eyes with makeup.

Also, certain glasses colors, sizes, and thickness will call for more or less makeup. I realized this as I try on the variety of plastic ‘fashion glasses’ I have. For example, usually black framed glasses look nicer with heavier makeup, while lighter/softer colors like light brown go well with more natural looks.

I used to do the glasses + heavy makeup look quite often when I had time before going out. Nowadays, I’ve gotten quite lazy but I still really love the look.

Swatches + Review

nyx caribbean collection, dream of barbados, dream of antigua, missha multi-shadow case, missha metallic shadow GA01, urban decay 24/7 liner perversion gunmetal binge, swatches and review

If I weren’t wearing glasses, I think false lashes (at least even side ones) are a must with this makeup, because I practically re-drew my eyes (bigger, elongated, higher crease) and need longer lashes to match it.

NYX Jumbo Pencil Black Bean
Pros: Dark, bold, glistening black. Good thickness to spread as eyeshadow base. Cheap.
Cons: Creased within a minute of putting it on!

Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil
Pros: Waterproof, long lasting, minimal smudging. Beautiful and diverse color selections.
Cons: Pricey

NYX Carribean Collection
Pros: Decent quality, diverse color selection, cheap.
Cons: Not very pigmented alone, must wear over base for best color

Missha Multi-Shadow Case + Single Metallic Shadows
This is only for the GA01 shadow color because all of the shadows vary in quality, pigmentation, and finish.
GA01 Pros: Beautiful, pigmented, metallic and glittery finish (even without base). Can choose your own shadows to place into empty Missha shadow palette case. Cheap price ($3~ USD) for good quality.
GA01 Cons: None, really… You have to use it over a base for the best pigmentation? Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Gunmetal is the best base match with it!

Inspiration

I always listen to music when I shoot my looks and was almost finished as G-Dragon and T.O.P‘s album started playing on my iTunes. I was literally dancing to it as I was shooting, and it ended up just working as this look has a bit of GD feel to it, I think. I always love the way he dresses!

Somehow, as I was looking up their pics to show a bit of their similar style and feel, I also found GD in a really similar look!

He looks so tired in this last photo! XD

I think the big plastic frame glasses is usually a love or hate thing. I know lots of people who say they hate it (my best friend), think it’s unfashionable (my white male coworker), or can’t understand why people would wear glasses when they don’t need it (my dad).

I don’t think it’s as hit as it used to be, but you can see all the Korean celebs are still wearing it. Personally, I really love these big, dorky glasses and own quite a few pairs myself. I also got my brother who hated it to wear it as well =p It’s an accessory, like necklaces, rings, or earrings. You don’t need things hanging all over your body either, right?

What do you guys think? ^^ I miss reading everyone’s comments! Where did those all go? T__T

Lookbook: Eleven: Work Outfit #1: Pinky Ribbon Bow + Mr. Rabbit

Hello lookbook post! Long time no see! XD

This is the first chance I’ve had since I’ve been back in Korea to shoot a look in my regular settings.

I did quite miss doing these posts!

This is actually one of my exact work outfits, from head-to-toe (minus the bag cuz it’s too nice to carry to work). All my past looks have had some pieces I wear to work, but never exactly so.

I used to work in academies and a high school in Korea, where I never felt the need to really have a separate work wardrobe. After I started working in a university though, I felt more of a need to have at least a few more professional looking outfits. This is not exactly a formal suit and high heels, but it’s still a lot more… teacher-like than what I normally might wear.

…except maybe for the shoes XD

Anyways, I’m not breaking any dress codes! *hmph*

Please be generous with liking, hyping, and re-tweeting this look. Thank you!

The ribbon and shirt were a set bought at a Korean street store for only like $10 USD.

I really love the pants — puffy on the top and slim at the ends. The pockets are slightly baggy and puff out (as you can see with my hands in my pocket) and the length ends perfectly at the ankle to wear a pair of heels or low cut sneakers. It’s rare to find a pair of formal dress pants without needing tailoring! It was about $40~ish. I bought it at a Korean franchise name like ‘the clige’ or ‘cliche’ or something (can’t remember exactly >.<). You can find branches in Myungdong and Ewha Woman's University (subway stations). It is a little on the pricier side as a street store, but it has a lot of more sophisticated and chic clothing.

The shoes are from H&M and they can pass for work shoes because the shoe laces ends are hidden so it looks less like casual sneakers (finding all possible loopholes in the dress code =p).

The square camera bag is from my April 명동 Accessories Haul.

I really love the ribbon — it’s pink, patterned, cute and pretty XDD I just pull it up and over my head each time instead of re-tying it.

I’m quite in love with my glitter nails lately. I did a crazy haul a while ago and bought a bunch of stuff including nail polishes — more pics and swatches on that in upcoming haul post!

A very simple, natural and ‘pretty’ makeup to go with the outfit.

I curled my hair with a 1.5 inch (or was it 1 inch?) curler which I bought at Superstore (drugstore) in Vancouver but was never able to use it in Korea because it didn’t match any of my converters T_T I finally inherited a converter from a coworker who was leaving so I was super happy ^^ It takes twice the time and is never as nice when I do it with a straightener -_-

I tried to go for the popular Korean loose and natural curls looks.

Oh, and did you notice my hair color is different? I bleached it a while ago myself with a L’oreal box dye and quite like the color. My hair is a work in process as I’m planning to overall bleach it again once my roots grow out, then either bleach it again or dye it a light ash blonde myself. OR I’m kind of contemplating cutting it really short… Not sure yet!

I bought a new shadow from Etude house and super love it. I’ve been looking for an orangey-gold frosty but not too glittery shadow that’s a few shades brighter than my skin and this is real close to what I want!

I’ll swatch it in my upcoming haul post as well.

I love to pair this rabbit earring with this outfit because I think the rabbit’s color and even clothing kind of matches mine? I just think it goes really well together — simple, cute, and pretty =p
